Our Story

Established in 2015, Montgomery Pride United provides a safe space for LGBTQIA+ people and advocates for our rights in the Deep South. Our center holds support groups, provides resources, and hosts community gatherings. Click here to learn our story.

Our Thrift Store and Namesake

Our community center is named after civil rights activist, Bayard Rustin. Bayard was an indispensable force behind the civil rights movement alongside Martin Luther King Jr. and openly gay. Our center carries on his legacy of advocacy, education, queer liberation, and unity. Click here to take a look inside and see our hours.

Who was Bayard Rustin?

Historical research fellows Jessi-Alex Brandon and Joseph Williams present the life and work of Bayard Rustin in this engaging video. Rustin was an indispensable force behind the civil rights movement alongside Martin Luther King Jr. and openly gay. Montgomery Pride carries on his legacy of advocacy, education, queer liberation, and unity.

Our Thrift Store

Open Tuesday and Friday. Our thrift store is fully operational and has an assortment of clothing, cooking items, and unique trinkets - 100% of sales go towards our work and sustaining the center. Please contact us if you need emergency clothing / supplies.
