Executive Director | Volunteer
We are searching for a Volunteer Executive Director that is motivated to expand a grassroots organization as our longtime Executive Director, Meta Ellis, steps down. This is an opportune position for a community member that wants to take on a leadership role in our city and help keep Montgomery Pride United a proud beacon of hope.
Duties and Responsibilities
Expected to oversee volunteer management of the Bayard Rustin Community Center and Thrift Store.
Expected to volunteer 20 hours or more a week to continue establishing the organization and raise funds along with the Board to confirm a future salary.
The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the administration, programs, and strategic plan of the organization.
Oversees fundraising, marketing, and community outreach.
Responsible for fiscal management that generally anticipates operating within
the approved budget, ensures maximum resource utilization, and maintenance of
the organization in a positive financial position.Works with the Board of Directors to enhance MPU’s vision, goals, and budgets.
Is responsible for communicating effectively with the Board and providing in a
timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function
properly and to make informed decisions.Researches and assesses other organizations’ concepts, programs,
organizational management structure, as they relate to our organization.Reports directly to the Board of Directors a minimum of four times a year.
Plans projects for the organization establishing timelines and report progress
Oversees activities associated with programs in order to ensure goals are achieved.
Documents all activities and is responsible for maintaining records.
Determine if, where, and how financial expenditures will be rendered and when necessary request the Board of Directors for release of funds.
Mentors staff and volunteers when needed.
This entails working from home when necessary using Email; phone; Zoom video. Conferencing, and messaging methods to obtain the desired results. Occasionally will be required to meet in person with other agency representatives, attend conferences, and network with them to obtain resources or represent MPU - depending on maintaining safety and health considerations.
Board of Directors
We are searching for a Board Member that is motivated to support Montgomery’s premier Pride organization. This is a great position for a community member that wants to take on a leadership role in our city and help grow our organization.
Duties and Responsibilities
Be available to attend at least 4 Board meetings per year, physically or virtually.
Duty of Care — Each board member has a legal responsibility to participate actively in making decisions on behalf of the organization and to exercise their best judgment while doing so.
Duty of Loyalty — Each board member must put the interests of the organization before their personal and professional interests when acting on behalf of the organization in a decision-making capacity. The organization’s needs come first.
Duty of Compliance — Board members bear the legal responsibility of ensuring that the organization complies with the applicable federal, state, and local laws and adheres to its mission.
Works with the Executive Director to enhance MPU’s vision, goals, and budgets.
Assists in recruiting, supervising, retaining, and evaluating employees and volunteers.
Is responsible for determining the compensation for the Executive Director’s services.
Helps in establishing and maintaining a policy-based governance system.
Fiduciary duty to protect the organization's assets and members' investment.
Researches and assesses other organizations’ concepts, programs, and organizational management structure, as they relate to our organization.
Ensures effective organizational planning.
Ensures adequate resources for the organization’s achievement of goals.
Manages resources effectively.
Has the ability to be flexible and consider alternative solutions.
Determines and monitors the organization's services and programs.
Enhances the organization's public image by maintaining a professional representation of the organization.
Serves as a Court of Appeal for disputes.
Assess its performance by periodic reviews of fellow Board members.
Each Board Member is vetted and approved by quorum of the existing Board Members.
